Community Supports Boy After Tragedy

Chicago: Wednesday afternoon, community members came together to spread holiday cheer to local families. Business owners and civic leaders from the South Side of Chicago gathered at Joe Willie’s Seafood to organize a food and toy drive for those in need.

Local business leaders donated the toys for the kids, and Mariano’s provided the dinner bags. For CJ, a two-year-old, we set aside a table full of toys for him.

The two-week-old was discovered safe in the Chatam apartment where his mother, Javonni Jenkins, and grandfather Curtis Hardman, had been shot dead.

Richard Wooten, the owner of SMJ Security, said, “We as a community, as business owners, are here to help, to show our support to this family.”
Event planners claimed they give back to the neighborhood all year long with donations and services.

“We want to be in his life,” said Sonia Coffee of CHW Management Group. “Like I said, not just for today; we want to be able to help him again.”
