Ahead of tomorrow’s highly anticipated midterm elections, Chris Pratt has endorsed billionaire Rick Caruso for mayor of Los Angeles. The 43-year-old actor decried the city’s ‘gradual descent into anguish and complete disarray’ while urging voters to support the newly-defected Democrat real estate developer.
Caruso was a Republican and then an Independent before he decided to run for mayor in the notoriously progressive city in February. At that point, he switched parties and joined the Democratic Party. In the run-off, he faces Joe Biden-backed progressive Karen Bass, who narrowly defeated the businessman in June’s election by seven percentage points.
“I’ve witnessed the city’s slow but steady descent into misery and chaos”-Pratt says
On Sunday, Pratt wrote in his Instagram Stories, “I’ve lived in LA for almost 20 years.” Pratt’s father-in-law is the former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. I’ve had a fantastic experience. Since then, I’ve witnessed the city’s slow but steady descent into misery and chaos, like many other locals.”
“When it comes to politics, I usually stay neutral. Nonetheless, the stakes are too high to take any chances in this election. “I strongly recommend @rickcarusola for LA voters. So, he works in construction. This guy is a master of getting things done. Our city needs someone like him. For Mayor of Los Angeles, I support Rick Caruso.
Pratt has stayed out of politics mainly because, as he explained in 2017, he wants to do his part in helping to mend the country’s wounds by not taking sides. ‘I honestly feel there’s common ground out there that’s ignored because we focus on the things that separate us,’ he told People. “You’re either the red or the blue state, the left or the right. Everything is not a political game.” He continued.
Fans in 2020 attacked Pratt harshly for his seeming lack of political activity, although he had donated to Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2012. It was widely assumed that the Jurassic World actor supported Donald Trump because of his ties to a conservative Christian church that has been condemned for its anti-LGBTQ stance.
However, he has decided to end his political quiet in support of Caruso, who reportedly spent over $100 million on his bid for mayor. A long list of famous people backs the billionaire businessman, including Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg, Elon Musk, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
Meanwhile, Barack Obama, Steven Spielberg, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Danny Trejo are all on record as supporting his preferred opponent, Bass. Caruso is running on a promise to make Tinseltown safer, end homelessness, and attract major corporations and the film industry.
Pratt predicts that the homeless camps will immediately be cleared off the streets
He has used the vast majority of his estimated $5.3 billion fortune to amass a war chest that dwarfs the total amount raised in the last three mayoral elections. Caruso, a moderate and the son of Italian immigrants, is seeing if the historically liberal city might turn to the right for the first time in decades.
He says the police force will grow, and homeless camps will immediately be cleared off the streets. Within the margin of error, the most recent polls have her at 45% and Caruso at 41%. For the most part, former Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti, who has stayed out of the race, will be replaced by the election’s victor.
Sexual harassment claims against a former top assistant to Garcetti appear to have hindered his candidacy for becoming U.S. ambassador to India, which Biden made over a year ago.
