Chicago Violence Explodes Throughout the Holiday Weekend, 30 People Shot and Two Killed

More than two dozen people were shot and three people were killed in Chicago during the course of a violent holiday weekend, including a guy who was discovered dead with around 16 gunshot wounds, according to investigators.

According to Chicago police, the outbreak of violence took place throughout the city between Friday at 6 p.m. and Monday at 11:59 p.m.

There were 30 gunshot victims and 29 shooting occurrences in all. According to the police, three people were killed, including two who were shot to death.

During a physical fight with a 24-year-old guy in the 400 block of South Wells Street, one murder victim, a 38-year-old man, was shot in the chest.

At Northwestern Hospital, the victim was declared dead, and the culprit was apprehended.

The number of murders in the Central Police District went up by 129% from the year before, according to the Chicago Sun-Times, which cited police data.

Police said that the second homicide happened Saturday morning at about 7:50 a.m. in the 300 block of South Springfield Avenue.

On the sidewalk, an unidentified person was discovered unconscious with around 16 gunshot wounds to his torso.

An officer-involved shooting on Saturday night in Chicago resulted in the deaths of both the suspect and a 3-year-old child.
