On Wednesday evening, four individuals were shot in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood of Chicago, according to a statement by the Chicago police.

According to a statement by the Chicago Fire Department, they responded to a call for assistance regarding an individual experiencing shortness of breath at the 6400 block of South King Drive. While paramedics were administering medical attention to the woman in an ambulance, gunfire erupted nearby.

“I hear like maybe eight, nine bullet but from different gun. Not only one gun. From different gun,” said Mahmood Alfahmawi, who works nearby. “Everybody running. I’m the first one run inside the store.”

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured after being struck in the chest, as reported by the Chicago police. The boy was promptly taken to the University of Chicago Hospital for medical treatment.

The Chicago Fire Department reported that due to their medical attention being focused on the gunshot victim, the paramedics were unable to leave the patient’s side. This resulted in an unruly crowd that became violent, leading to the windshield of the ambulance being smashed. In response to this, the paramedics called for assistance, and dozens of police personnel arrived at the scene to help control the situation.

According to the Chicago police, the other three victims who were shot drove themselves to the University of Chicago Hospital. One of them, a 22-year-old man, suffered a graze wound to the leg, while the other two, a 39-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, were struck in the thigh and leg, respectively. All three are reported to be in good condition. The individual who experienced shortness of breath was also taken to the same hospital for medical attention.

At this point, no additional details have been made available. It remains unclear whether any suspects have been apprehended, and an ongoing investigation by the Chicago police is currently underway.
