Armed Chicago Man Follows, Attacks Woman on Video Before Stealing Her Car


In a September assault that was caught on camera, a man from Chicago who was armed followed a woman into a business and attacked her before stealing her car, according to the police.

According to Chicago police, the alleged robbery and car theft took place on September 24 at about 7:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of West Monroe Street in the city’s West Loop district.

Police have made available CCTV video that depicts the man approaching the victim after following her via a building door. A brief fight then appears to start after the male, who according to police was “armed with an object,” appears to push the woman.

The victim is shown being knocked to the ground by the culprit, who then runs from the scene. According to the police, the suspect stole the woman’s car and her keys.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call  Area 3 Detective Harris at 312-744-8261, according to the authorities. As of Nov. 6, there have been 40% more crime complaints in Chicago than there were at this time last year.

According to Chicago police data, aggravated battery reports have decreased 8% from 5,586 in 2021 to 5,159 thus far this year, yet theft and motor vehicle theft complaints have increased significantly.

Statistics show that the number of theft reports has increased 60% so far this year, from 10,728 in 2021 to 17,136 as of Nov. 6. There have been 16,396 reports of motor vehicle theft so far this year, up from 8,644 at this time last year, a 90% increase.

The abandoned 23-acre Damen Silos property along the South Branch of the Chicago River, which the state of Illinois said it had sold off, has run into a potential hitch less than a week after the announcement.
