Announcement: Salt Lake County Council Member Steps Away from Re-Election
Dave Alvord, a Salt Lake County Council member, has opted not to run for re-election.
Instead, he’s supporting fellow Republican Carlos Moreno, who has formally filed to run for the District 2 seat.
This district covers the west side of Salt Lake County, from Magna to South Jordan, and includes cities such as West Valley City and Herriman.
Alvord announced his decision via social media, citing mixed emotions about not running for re-election.
He confirmed his support for Moreno, pointing out the latter’s ability to bring new viewpoints and ideas to the west side community.

Alvord’s Tough Choice Backing Moreno
Alvord highlighted Moreno’s particular vision for the neighborhood in his announcement.
He feels Moreno’s campaign indicates a growing tendency of Hispanic Americans joining with the Republican Party, a development Alvord supports.
Political Shifts: Entry of Thatcher and Olson
Following Alvord’s declaration, Republican state Senator Daniel Thatcher announced his candidacy for the same District 2 seat.
Thatcher plans to secure the seat by focusing on local issues that are frequently disregarded by the state government.
In addition, Democrat Katie Olson has filed to compete for the District 2 seat.
The election scene is becoming increasingly varied, with numerous candidates from various political backgrounds vying for this position.
