Texans love their barbecue, tacos, and chili. But it may be time to switch to pizza. Because a restaurant in the Lone Star State topped a recent list of the best pizzerias in the country.
Website for restaurant reviews and lifestyle news Gayot ranked the best pizza restaurants in America for 2022, with a southeast Texas location topping the list.
According to the Gayot report, Bollo Woodfired Pizza in Houston won for its real buffalo mozzarella and 00 flour — a finely ground Italian flour commonly used to make pasta and pizza dough — which the restaurant sources directly from Italy.
The “Bianco de Bollo,” made with extra-virgin olive oil, basil, tomatoes, and mozzarella, is the standout pizza dish, according to Gayot.
According to the menu, other dishes include the Texas Wagyu Beef pizza, a loaf of garlic parmesan bread made from pizza dough with a marinara dipping sauce, Gulf shrimp sautéed in garlic and olive oil, and lobster ravioli in creamy truffle butter.
Customers compare the pizzeria to the “closest to what you can find in Italy,” while visitors rave about the restaurant’s “ingredients [that] taste so fresh, service [that] was quick, and the people [that] were nice.”
Other pizza restaurants on Gayot’s list come from cities across the country, including Pizza Domenica, a wood-fired pizzeria in New Orleans.
