AG: Medical Assistant in Pennsylvania Accused of Stealing Patient Information

Attorney General Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania said that he has filed more than twenty counts against a medical assistant who was thought to have used patient information to make thousands of dollars in sales.

The AG claims that an investigation into Ashley Latimer, 34, of Philadelphia, revealed something. While working at Axia Women’s Health in Montgomery County, she would photograph patient information and licences with her phone.

Made Purchases for Over $31,000

Latimer would use this information to apply for credit cards, make purchases, and sign leases for residences. She even made purchases from the online furnishings retailer Wayfair totaling over $31,000!

Attorney General Shapiro charged the defendant with “abusing her authority and disregarding her duty as a medical professional.”

The safety of patients and the integrity of the health care systems in our Commonwealth are too important to risk from outside actors.

The charges against Latimer include 27 counts of identity theft, 7 counts of theft, 4 counts of computer theft, and 1 case of forgery.
