After Houston issued a boil water notice due to the loss of local power at three water treatment plants, Governor Greg Abbott today ordered the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to mobilize the necessary resources to assist Houston.
The governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, declared that “the State of Texas is immediately responding and deploying resources to Houston as they seek to get a safe supply of water back online.” “We have spoken with Mayor Turner to express the state’s unwavering support, and we are presently trying to accommodate the city’s request for assistance with a quick turnaround of water sample results. I appreciate TDEM and TCEQ’s prompt action in resolving this matter. We implore anyone who is affected by the boil water advisory to keep following the instructions of their local authorities and to use appropriate caution when boiling and using water. Together, we will see to it that our fellow Texans are taken care of as the city’s water supply is restored.”
In accordance with the Governor’s directive, TDEM is coordinating with local emergency management and fire officials to swiftly address all local needs, and TCEQ is prepared to analyze the water sample findings for the city of Houston and provide any necessary technical support.
