A Michigan Woman Tests Covid Positive During a Flight. Then Forced to Stay in the Plane Bathroom for 5 Hours
A woman from the United States has described how she was forced to isolate herself to a toilet cubicle on an airplane after testing positive for Covid midway through a flight from Chicago to Iceland.
Marisa Fotieo, a teacher from Michigan, reported that her throat began to pain halfway through the journey, prompting her to go to the restroom and take a fast Covid test, which showed that she had been infected.
In an interview with NBC News, Fotieo said how he took a quick test and brought it into the restroom, where he noticed two lines [indicating a positive test] in what felt like two seconds.
Adding, “There are 150 passengers on the airplane, and my greatest dread was handing it to them.”

Fotieo shared the news on TikTok, where he shot a short video from within the cramped quarters, along with the caption: “POV you test positive for Covid whilst over the Atlantic Ocean.”
“I would like to thank Icelandair for providing me with VIP quarantine quarters,” she continued.
Fottieo claimed she remained in the lavatory for most of the flight, relying on flight attendant Ragnhildur “Rocky” Eirksdóttir to bring her food and drinks during the flight.
Since it was first released on December 21, Fotieo’s TikTok video has received more than 4 million views, with viewers puzzled as to how she had managed to join the flight.
