A man drowns in an East Tennessee lake after attempting to save a dog.

According to officials, a man from North Carolina drowned while attempting to save a dog that had jumped into an East Tennessee lake.

According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Eric Jordan, 52, was on a boat going to Watauga Lake when a dog entered the lake, causing him to lose consciousness.

 

 

Jordan attempted to save the dog by jumping into the water while the boat was still moving, but Jordan became distressed, according to the news agency.

A bystander on a neighboring houseboat sprang into the water and pulled him onto the boat with his feet. According to authorities, CPR was administered, but Jordan was unable to be revived. An autopsy was performed on his body, which was transported to Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City.

Jordan’s residence in North Carolina was not identified in a news release from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
