A Man and Woman Died on UC Irvine’s Campus in an Apparent Murder-Suicide

Irvine police said a man and a woman committed suicide or were murdered on the UC Irvine campus on Tuesday, December 13. Sgt. Karie Davies, an Irvine police spokesperson, said the two adults were discovered at about 4 p.m. in Social Science Plaza B and were related to each other. The man had enrolled at UCI in 2019, although neither of them was a student.

It was unclear whether or not anyone had seen an incident between the two

Davies stated that no weapons were found at the site and that police were not actively searching for a suspect. Davies could not elaborate on the nature of the relationship between the two people who died together in Irvine, although he did say they were not husband and wife. Davies stated that both were adults, but their identities were not being made public as of Tuesday night.

According to Davies, it was unclear whether or not anyone had seen an incident between the two. Irvine Police were familiar with the suspect. However, Davies was unable to say for what reasons. On Tuesday night, UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman issued a statement addressing the situation.

Law enforcement has assured us there is no active threat to the community. Still, we are gathering information about the victims and the incident’s circumstances. On December 9, the end of the fall quarter was marked on the calendar at UCI.
