A little kid helped his grandma and got a special award for it. Last week, Rosa Garcia got very sick while taking care of her 6-year-old grandson, James. She couldn’t breathe, so James did something really important—he called 911 to ask for help.
James talked to the people on the phone and said, “I don’t know what’s happening to my grandma,” and “I’m scared.”
He stayed strong and waited with his grandma until the paramedics came. James let them inside the house to help his grandma feel better.
The paramedics were surprised because they didn’t expect to see such a young kid helping out. One firefighter even said, “They said someone was helping the grandma, but when we opened the door, we saw a little man!”
Because of what he did, James got a special award called the Young Hero Award from the Orange County Fire Rescue. His grandma is really happy and proud of him. She said, “I love my whole family, but he’s the most special to me.”
James wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. He’s already dreaming about it.
