According to the authorities, a man who was driving his family to the grocery store in Texas over the weekend ran over a toddler three times.
On Saturday, he ran over a 6-year-old kid, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
According to an unidentified witness, the driver attempted to escape the scene, but he was detained and kept until police arrived.

A second man, who requested anonymity, works at a company near the laundromat where the tragedy occurred.
“The grandfather, in a state of panic, started repeating, ‘My grandson, my grandchild,’ and the driver was out of his mind, so he backed up on him (the kid) again,” claimed the unidentified guy.
“He rushed once past him and then returned to him.”
Sean Teare of the Vehicular Crimes Division of Harris County said that the subject is a repeat offender.
Pedro Alberto Hernandez, 52, was named as the suspect in court records, and it was found that he has been convicted of driving while intoxicated in three different counties since July 2015.

Hernandez may face life in prison if convicted.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was among the first in the state to attach a felony charge to a DWI conviction. This is one method they are attempting to address the problem.
“Our office and our law enforcement partners are prosecuting these cases differently,” Teare said.
According to court filings, Hernandez said that he had four 16-ounce beers before the incident.
