One Dead, One Critical In A Fiery Crash On Route 23 In Greenport!
In a two-car collision that occurred in Columbia County on Monday, one person died, and another was gravely injured. The crash on Route 23 in the town of Greenport occurred at approximately 5:45 p.m., according to the New York State Police.
Columbia County 911 dispatched troopers to a scene close to Ponderosa Drive in response to reports of two fully burned-out cars.
After rescuing Michelle J. Burnham, 59, of Delanson, Schenectady County, from her flaming 2003 Hyundai Elantra, members of the Greenport Fire Department handed her over to Greenport Rescue for medical attention.
She was in critical condition when she was brought to Albany Medical Center. According to authorities, Hudson resident David Warfield,57, who was operating a 2011 Toyota Tacoma, was pronounced deceased at the site.

According to the authorities, the preliminary inquiry revealed that Warfield was passing many cars while going east on Route 23 in the westbound lane.
Then, in an attempt to avoid an uninvolved westbound vehicle, Warfield collided with Burnham’s car in the eastbound lane. According to police, the investigation is still ongoing.
