“Aim to reduce Youth Violence”-A Meeting of Atlanta’s 26th Police Chief and Officials is Going to be Conducted

A special Atlanta Public Safety Commission meeting has been called so locals can discuss ways to lessen youth violence. Two weeks after, teens killed two boys, ages 12 and 15, and injured others on the 17th Street bridge near Atlantic Station.

A meeting has been scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on December 13 at Atlanta City Hall. While other suspects are still being sought, police have announced two arrests in the homicide probe. Zion Charles, 12, was one of the children shot and murdered near Atlantic Station. His mother reportedly told members of the city council that she wanted her son placed in juvenile jail due to his criminal conduct.

Mission to prevent unintentional shootings

Keisha Waites, a member of the Atlanta City Council, has proposed imposing a later curfew on the city’s youth. Waites proposed a weekday curfew of 7 p.m. for children under 16, increasing from the present curfew of 11 p.m.

Extreme circumstances necessitate extreme action,” Waites remarked. Antonio Lewis, a city councilman in Atlanta, said the city provides gun safes at no cost to locals. At Tuesday night’s City Council meeting, Lewis proposed that Atlanta “develop a program to provide firearm safety storage free of charge for qualifying people inside the City of Atlanta” to prevent unintentional shootings and lower the number of firearms stolen from homes without proper locks.
