A 51-year-old man was killed in Zion on Saturday when he crashed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer truck and became trapped inside. The coroner has named the man.
A Monday autopsy on Marcus Bolar, 51, of Waukegan, showed that he died from injuries he got in a car accident. This was confirmed by Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek.
Around 5:28 a.m. Saturday, the Zion Police Department, the Zion Fire and Rescue Department, and the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department all went to the intersection of 9th Street and Green Bay Road in Zion to help people who had been hurt in a car accident.

When police arrived, they saw that a car and a semi-truck had been in a crash. The accident took place in the lanes going south on Green Bay Road, north of 9th Street, and close to the GFL Zion Landfill.
Radio chatter from the fire department shows that a bystander and police officers said Bolar, the driver of the car, was unconscious and not breathing.

Paramedics said the car had “catastrophic damage” after hitting the semi-truck from behind. Also, paramedics said Bolar was badly trapped in the car and would need to be freed from the wreckage.
Fire workers worked for more than 15 minutes to free the person. The police said Bolar was dead at the scene, Banek said. There were no other injuries recorded.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) came to the spot and did an investigation for several hours. Zion Police said that Green Bay Road was closed between 9th Street and Russell Road. It was reopened around noon on Saturday. The cops still haven’t said what caused the accident.
