In the early hours of Sunday, gunfire erupted outside a club in Portage Park, Chicago, killing three and injuring a woman. On Sunday morning, police commander Joseph Brennan informed reporters that a fight that started inside a bar at 2:30 a.m. near Central Avenue and School Street had broken out onto the street.
He added that two males and two women were shot in the 5500 block of West School. Brennan stated that the shooter drove away in a dark SUV and is still at large.
Shot multiple times in the head and body, Ricky Vera, 50, and Mario Pozuelos, 26, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. Police and the medical examiner’s office confirmed that 24-year-old Mercedes Tavares was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital.
A 25-year-old woman was also brought to the same hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, and she is currently listed in critical condition. Brennan stated that detectives were watching footage from surveillance cameras. He reported that several bullet casings were found at the spot.
