A guy from Concord has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, DUI, and hit-and-run because he is said to have been drunk when his car hit another car last week and killed a passenger.
At 6:49 p.m. Thursday, Concord police were called to Oak Grove Road and Treat Boulevard for a crash. While officers were at the scene, they learned that there had been another accident near Oak Grove and Ryan roads.

An 86-year-old man was in one of the cars involved in the second crash. He was taken to the hospital but died there. The Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office says his name is Thomas O’Connell and that he lives in Concord.

Daniel Lopez-Avelino, 19, from Concord, was arrested by police and was still being held at the Martinez Detention Facility on Wednesday without bail.
On Tuesday, Lopez-Avelino was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while drunk, DUI causing major bodily injury, hit-and-run with injury, and driving a car without a license.
