18-Year-Old Faces Murder Charges In Indio Apartment Case!

An 18-year-old man suspected of fatally shooting a 19-year-old in an apartment in Indio was charged with m*rder.

Jacob Matthew Alvin Vargas of Indio was also charged with one felony count each of burglary and being a convicted felon and narcotic addict in possession of a firearm, according to court records.

He also faces sentence-enhancing allegations of committing the crimes while out on bail. He will be charged at the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Wednesday afternoon.

Police were called to the Monte Azul Apartments in the 82160 block of Dr. Carreon Boulevard at 12:48 a.m. Friday because gunshots were heard there, according to Ben Guitron, spokeswoman for the Indio Police Department.

“Officers were led to an apartment in the complex … upon entry, they found a male adult with gunshot wounds,” Guitron shared. “Indio (and) Cal Fire paramedics and fire staff were there, and the victim passed away at the scene.”

At first, the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s Bureau did not say what the victim’s name was.

Guitron said that people who heard the gunshots led police to the apartment, where they found the victim with the help of paramedics and firemen. They tried to save her life but failed, and police started looking into her death.
