New development papers suggest building almost 200 affordable dwellings on a former homeless shelter.
A new planning proposal at 1515 South Van Ness Ave. shows a rise from 157 to 170 intended residences.

Seven studios, 62 one-bedrooms, 49 two-bedrooms, and 52 three-bedrooms will be for rent.
The dwellings will be 100% affordable to tenants earning 30% to 80% of the area median income, compared to 25% under previous plans.
Chinatown Community Development Center and Mission Economic Development Agency are the nonprofit developers of the project. contacted the Chinatown CDC.

The city bought the McMillan Electric facility in 2019. Before construction begins, the existing shelter must be dismantled. $112 million is projected for construction.
